Siyakhula Living Lab: Inauguration of a new Digital Access Node in Ngwane (Dwesa)

Dwesa February 5 478.jpgOn the 5th of February, several hundred community members of the Mbashe Region (near Dwesa Nature Reserve), staff and students from Fort Hare and Rhodes Universities as well as representatives from industry and government took part in the launch of the Digital Access Node (DAN) at Ngwane Junior Secondary School in the former homeland of Transkei, in the Eastern Cape.

The new BANKSETA Center of Excellence in Financial Markets

The University of Fort Hare and the BANKSETA have launched a new Centre of Excellence to help build capacity to in the field of Financial Markets. The function was held at the Regent Hotel, East London on 23 February 2010 and  was marked by the unveiling of a commemorative plaque.

This re-affirms the sound relations that exist between the financial sector and the Faculty of Management and Commerce.  The new Center is located in the Department of Economics.  Other examples are the Nedbank Chair in Economics and the Sanlam Chair in Business and Enterprise.

UFH recruitment drive starts with a bang

The University of Fort Hare participated in a first-of-its-kind recruitment drive in Libode Mega District in the Transkei region.

Besides a strong presence from Fort Hare, the recruitment drive was also graced by University of South Africa (UNISA), Vaal University of Technology (VUT), Central University of Technology (CUT), University of Johannesburg (UJ), Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU), Rhodes University, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), Eskom Bursaries, Central Applications Office (Kwa-Zulu Natal), Standard Bank and UNITRA Radio.

Minister of Higher Education and Training visits Fort Hare

South Africa's  first Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr Blade Ndzimande, visited the University of Fort Hare last week as part of his national visits to Higher Education and FET colleges to familiarize himself with their challenges. His visit also coincided with the official academic opening ceremony at the East London campus held on Tuesday, the 8th of February.
